Geoscientists Canada is the national organization of the geoscience regulatory bodies that govern Canada’s more than 12,000 Professional Geoscientists (P.Geo.s) and more than 2,800 Geoscientists-in-training (GITs). In Canada, geoscience is a regulated profession in the interest of public and environmental protection. To practice, a geoscientist must register as a Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with the regulatory body in each province or territory in which they practice.

Every day we all use information and resources geoscientists provide. Computers and mobile devices, a bicycle, a glass of water, a bridge or a tunnel, a light, or a mirror, and so much more – a geoscientist has played a critical role in their delivery.

BECOMING A P.GEO.

In Canada, geoscience is regulated in the public interest. Professional licensure demonstrates that a geoscientist has met the nationally recognised standards of education, experience, ethics, and professionalism. Professional geoscientists must meet established standards and are professionally accountable, similar to other regulated professions such as engineering, medicine, and law.
